After a disappointing 4-4 draw with Dafen in the week, the Under 16s were determined to prove that they are a team to be reckoned with this season. With centre backs Yakin Rai and Gary Curwood both unavailable for todays game, Jason Garcia decided to adopt a 3-4-3 formation to start todays game dragging captain Nathan Jones back to his natural centre back position.
Cameron John got Wellfield off to an early lead when he finished after breaking through on goal. It seemed that Tumble were unable to cope with the pressure of 3 forwards attacking with the home side creating many chances. Cameron grabbed a second goal although he didn't seem to know much about it as it was a shot from Mikey Charles that deflected off him. Ginge grabbed a third before the break by smashed a penalty into the roof of the net.
Half-Time: Wellfield Athletic 3-0 Tumble
Wellfield came out strong once again and soon scored another goal. It was Rubin Rai who did well to finish a volley from a cross from out wide. But Tumble stuck at it and had to thank some solid defending for keeping them with a slim chance of getting back in the game. They managed to grab two goals back which brought them right back in the game. But Wellfield fought hard and played some very attractive football at times, particarly down the right flank through Dion, Shane, Ben and Ginge. After coming close on a few occasions Mikey Charles grabbed a goal of his own when he was given too much time in the Tumble area. He finished well to complete the scoring and help Wellfield earn 3 points.
Full-Time: Wellfield Athletic 5-2 Tumble
A much improved performance compared to that during the week and it is important that Wellfield continue to pick up these routine points to get something this season. |
