The club's Annual Dinner took place this year on Saturday 4th June at the Selwyn Samuel Centre. The evening was a great way to celebrate this seasons success, with the club being promoted to the top division of Carmarthenshire League football for the first time in its history.
The evening started with the junior awards which were presented by Swansea City Youth Team player and Wales Under 17's International James Loveridge. The awards were presented as follows;
Under 13's
Clubman of the Year - Tom Williams
Most Improved Player of the Year - Luke Jenkins
Player's Player of the Year - Corey Borthwick
Player of the Year - Lewis Jones
Congratulations to all the junior award winners and a big thanks to everyone that has been involved in starting up this promising team. Thanks go out to all the parents as well who have made the coaches jobs easier this season, you have all been fantastic!
The next awards were given out to the people involved in the club who have been very important with the running of the club. Firstly Jason Garcia was awarded with the Long Service Award after his continued hard work with the running of the club. Jason has been involved in the club for about 20 years now and recently stood down from his roles as Secretary, Treasurer and Reserve Team Manager. He has been a huge part of the club and Wellfield would like to thank Jason for his work over the years.
Stephen Greene was awarded with the Clubman of the Year award after his work with the juniors over the past season and his roles that he has played off the pitch to ensure the running of the club.
The two Reserve Team awards were the next awards to be presented. They have had a decent first season in Reserve Division 2 after being promoted last season, finishing in a respectable fifth place. The deserved winner of the Reserve Team Player of the Year award was Rob Owen, who impressed both managers in his first season of senior football. The Reserve Team Players Player of the Year was awarded to the top goalscorer of the team this season, Rhodri Griffiths.
The first team awards were the last major awards to be presented. In what has been arguably the most successful season on the pitch for the first team, manager Andrew Kirkhouse announced the Player of the Year as Johnny Thomas, who has scored 30 goals in this campaign. After picking up 14 out of 18 votes, veteren Karl Jones picked up the Player's Player of the Year, which was presented to him by Steve Sheriff.
Congratulations to all the award winners and all that have supported the club over the past season. Also, congratulations to 1st team manager Andrew Kirkhouse in achieving his second promotion in three seasons, taking the club from Division 2 to the Premier Division. Jason Garcia has also done well this season in getting his young team to a fifth place finish in what was a tough Reserve Division.
The final awards of the evening were less serious and were presented as follows;
Head Girl - Chris Davies and Deputy Head Girl - Steve Harries
Sitter of the Season - Ryan Williams
Boxing Champion - Steve Harries
Ginger of the Year - Ethen Scougall
A final thanks go out to chairman David Craddock and all the committee members who ensure that the club runs as smoothly as possible. Hopefully next season we will be celebrating in our Club Dinner once again after another successful season. |
